Fundora vs Granadino: the American called upon to
defend her title
(AUG 28) Summer is ending but the boxing season is about to heat up. On the 20th of
September, in Indio, California, the sun-kissed city famous for the popular
Coachella Festival, another kind of music will be heard. The boxing gloves of
the unbeaten Gabriela Fundora will swing versus the ones worn by Ayelen
Granadino. It could be a noisy clash to remember in female boxing.
What do the bookmakers think?
The American Fundora is favored by all the major bookmakers. The community's
prediction data is emblematic, with her victory by KO at an almost unbelievable
probability of 100%. Her victory is more than a possibility, it is almost a
certainty, which is why her odds are so low: taking advantage of promotions
offered by bookmakers such as
Fanatics
Sportsbook offers, available at the link
above, could be an opportunity to bet on the match and have the chance to make a
potentially substantial profit.
The fight will be contested over 10 rounds in the Flyweight division, which
means the weight limit will be 112 pounds (8 stone or 50.8 kg). This bout will
appear on the undercard of
Oscar Collazo's and Jayson Vayson's clash for the WBO
World Minimumweight, WBA Super World Minimumweight and The Ring Strawweight
championship. The category belt worn by Gabriela Fundora will be the prize for
the winner and her Argentinian opponent will do whatever possible to strip the
American of the precious accessory. Whatever possible, though, may not be enough
to defeat Fundora, whose statistics are impressive.
Fundora’s power is unquestioned
Ayelen Granadino is a good fighter. She boxes out of an orthodox stance, is
right-handed and took part in 18 professional fights (143 rounds) since her
debut, in 2018. The 27-year-old won 12 bouts, lost 4 and drew 2. This is not a
bad record at all. Her problem is her opponent. Gabriela Fundora, nicknamed
Sweet Poison, usually dominates in the ring. Born in 2002, she has fought 16
times since 2021. She didn't lose a single fight. Ever. Of her 16 triumphs, 8
came by KO.
The stats, which usually don’t lie and can be found in
our vast
blog archive,
suggest Fundora has a massive power advantage over Granadino. Her 50% knockout
percentage tells a tape quite difficult to misunderstand, especially compared to
Granadino's 8%. The American is slightly younger, at 23 years old, so she may
have more stamina to spend, and has a height advantage of 7 inches, almost 18
centimeters, over Granadino. Gabriela Fundora fights out of the southpaw stance,
sometimes difficult to defend and is a left-handed boxer. The American has a lot
of advantages and she will fight in front of her home crowd. The 23-year-old
hails from Coachella and literally trains a couple of blocks away from the
Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, the temple of the clash.
Granadino is the clear underdog. Some people may sympathise with her since
Fundora is heavily favoured, but they shouldn’t get their hopes up. Of course,
in sports everything may happen (and this is the reason why we love them so
much) but let’s be frank: 10 rounds are long enough to give Fundora all the time
to patiently hit her opponent, tiring the Argentinian until the time will be
just right to charge in and go for her metaphorical throat. Granadino will need
determination, focus and a good dose of luck to emerge victorious on that
Saturday night.
