August 21, 2025

(AUG 21) Women’s boxing has a rich history in the world of Women's Boxing. At WBAN, we are proud to present our top picks for books that shine a light on the sport.

One of our top picks is “A History of Women’s Boxing,” a groundbreaking book written by Malissa Smith. Released in 2014.  The book is a comprehensive volume uncovers the evolution of women's boxing from its early days through the modern era. Smith meticulously details the struggles and triumphs faced by female boxers over the decades. [Link]

Another top pick, following up on her earlier work, Malissa Smith released “The Promise of Women’s Boxing” in 2024, promising a fresh perspective on the current and future states of women’s boxing. This engaging read explores the new era of the sport—highlighting emerging talents, game-changing athletes, and the growing support for women in boxing.  [Link]

Malissa Smith, as a prominent advocate for women’s boxing, Smith has made significant contributions across various platforms. Her extensive involvement with the International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame (IWBHF);  a member of The Ring’s Women’s Boxing Panel and the monthly WBC women’s boxing committee; a public speaker; and with her podcast, WAAR Room, co-hosted with Chris Baldwin and Eddie Goldman.

In conclusion, whether you are a seasoned fan or a curious newcomer, we encourage you to explore these titles. “A History of Women’s Boxing” and “The Promise of Women’s Boxing” by Malissa Smith are not merely books.
