(AUGUST 20) Abril “La Tina” Vidal, was born in Neuquén, Province of Rio Negro, Argentina, and comes from a family of boxers but chose kickboxing at the age of 11.

She competed in national and international events until 2018, accumulating a record of 25-0, and along the way becoming a 2x World Amateur Kickboxing Champion. Thereafter, “La Tina” dedicated herself to boxing.

“La Tina” Vidal started out with little to no support. Promoted by her uncle Hugo Escobar and trained by her father former fighter Fabio Pucara Vidal, in modest surroundings.

“La Tina" Vida” made her professional debut on April 18, 2018, defeating Natalia Juárez. A year later, she won the South American junior middleweight title (69.850 kg) against Yamila Reynoso (11-7-3), from Buenos Aires.

11 months later on July 19, 2019, after winning the South American Super Welterweight title in her 6th pro fight against Yanina Orozco (5-1-0), “La Tina” was given her first opportunity of vying for a world title against Costa Rican World Champ Hanna Gabriel for Gabriel’s WBA Women’s World Super Welterweight Crown.

According to some reports and the Vidal Camp the fight against Gabriel was a very close one in favor of Vidal. The judge’s scorecard that evening did not reflect what actually occurred inside the ring.

After the Gabriel fight and the Pandemic taking place, “La Tina’s” life took a different turn: motherhood.

The birth of her son Israel in 2020 kept her away from competition until August 6, 2022, when she returned and defeated a tough Nerina Salafía on points at a weight of 170lbs., about 10 pounds heavier than usual. Her body changed, forcing her to move up several weight classes.

20 months later, on March 24, 2024, in what many thought would be easy pickings for Canadian Vanessa LePage-Joanisse to win the Vacant WBC Women’s World Heavyweight Championship, including the LePage Camp, “La Tina” surprised everyone in attendance and all those watching the fight live on DAZN by giving LePage a tougher fight than the LePage camp expected and a fight which was tougher for Vanessa then her fight against the current Undisputed Women’s Heavyweight Champion Claressa Shields. Vidal does not care for a rematch.

“La Tina” Vidal aspires becoming the Undisputed Women’s Heavyweight Champion and in turn, the Undisputed Women’s Lt. Heavyweight Champion. She understands the process and is willing and ready to face the likes of; Danielle Perkins, Savannah Marshall, Franchon Crews-Dezurn, Che Kenneally, or Lani Daniels, en route to getting there.

According to various sources next in line for Claressa is, Shadasia Green. Should that fight get sealed this opens up the possibility for any of the aforementioned fighters to compete against one another in what would be a Heavyweight World Title Eliminator. Winner takes on the winner of Shields vs. Green.

“La Tina” is very serious about her career and has even taken the initiative of traveling to the United States next month (September 2025), and will stay for a period of 6 months to train in Elizabeth, New Jersey. From there she will network and enter into dialogues in hopes of acquiring the opportunities female fighter are finally receiving and to show the world that she is more than a contender.

Boxing is all about dreams, desires, and opportunities and these can disappear in the blink of an eye. Let's seize them while we can.
