Oshae Jones Clinches Victory in a Close Split Decision to Defend Her World Titles
by Sue TL Fox
July 26, 2025

(JULY 26) Last night at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia, in a female world title bout, Oshae “Suga” Jones, 153 1/2, of Toledo, Ohio, faced off against Elia Carranza, 153, of Miami, Florida,  where Jones was defending her IBF and IBO Super Welterweight world titles.

The last fight that Jones had was in November of 2024, where she defeated Femke Hermans in a ten-round world title fight for the IBF and IBO Super Welterweight world titles.

Oshae Jones, known for her powerful combinations met Elia Carranza, whose unique style and quick footwork added an intriguing dynamic to the match.  The ultimate result was a split ten-round decision for  Jones who retained her IBF and IBO Super Welterweight World titles.

For Carranza, this was a second fight for her in 2025, when she fought Natasha Spence, winning the eight-rounder by a unanimous decision. [Full Fight of Video]

One judge scored the contest for Carranza with 90-100, while the other two sided with Jones, with scores of 94-96 and 96-98. The 90-100 scoring was a tad bit strange because that would have meant that Jones did not win one round.  Jones remains undefeated with a 9-0-0 (3KO), and Carranza is now 11-2-0 (3KO).

Beyond the result, the fight itself was a celebration of women’s boxing. Both fighters displayed incredible sportsmanship and mutual respect.

It will be interesting to see if these two rematch as the fight could have gone either way in their first encounter.  Regardless, this night was another successful night for the sport when two fighters are well-matched in the ring and  is a definite win-win  for Women's Boxing!
