(JUNE 19) Waikato’s Jadene Treadaway will fight
for the New Zealand national (Pro Box NZ version) Lightweight title against
Tricia MacKenzie on 5th July in The Plaza at Putāruru. World title
promoter Nigel Elliott will host another excellent evening of Professional
boxing, amateur boxing, corporate boxing, Muay Thai fighting, and K1 Kickboxing.
He will once again crown a new New Zealand champion in the main event between
Jadene Tredaway and Tricia MacKenzie.

Jadene Treadaway is still in the early stages of her
career, only making her professional boxing debut in December last year against
Macy Smith, which ended in a draw at Lake Karapiro. Treadaway had some amateur
boxing experience before turning pro, but now, coming into her third
professional boxing fight, she already has an opportunity to become champion.
We last saw Treadaway in May, where she fought in Te Awamutu, on the Alex Mukuka
undercard. She achieved her first win in her professional boxing career, winning
by Unanimous Decision against Palmerston North’s Tania Barnett.
Currently, Treadaway is ranked 4th in New Zealand according to Boxrec. She will
be taking on Tricia MacKenzie, who is ranked 2nd in New Zealand. If Treadaway
wins, not only will she become the New Zealand champion, but she will also shoot
up into the top 70 world rankings. Currently, Treadaway is ranked around 111 in
the world boxing rankings on Boxrec.
Tricia MacKenzie made her professional boxing debut in July 2022 against Ayisha
Abied. Both MacKenzie and Ayisha Abied have fought twice, with Abied winning
once and the other fight ending in a draw. MacKenzie's only win of her career
was against Talei Aldiss with an amazing stoppage win, back in December 2022.
Tricia MacKenzie has fought some of the best New Zealand boxers, including
Commonwealth Games representative Erin Walsh and Pacific Games Gold Medalist
Sheilla Yama. The fight against Walsh was very close and is considered one of
the most entertaining and action-packed 6-round fights of 2024.
MacKenzie is being trained by Tania Reid, who is the first ever female from New
Zealand to win the historical ANBF Australasian title. She retired from
professional boxing herself in 2021 when she fought former IBO World Champion
Mea Motu.
There has not been a female New Zealand champion in the lightweight division
since Mea Motu won in 2021 against Tania Reid. This would come full circle for
Reid if MacKenzie won the fight. This is also a history-making moment as there
has not been a New Zealand Lightweight champion for the Pro Box NZ commissioning
body.
Nigel Elliott's gym, Ace Fighters in Putāruru, has seen a lot of success
recently with brothers Lleyton and Jordan Ward walking away from the
International Thai Martial Arts Games with Gold and Silver in the Muay Boran
championships division. Both brothers are expected to be on this fight card. A
win for Jadene Treadaway will add another championship to Nigel Elliott’s gym.
