(APRIL 11) On Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the
Estadio F.A.B., Sol Cudos won the vacant IBF minimumweight title by split
decision against Maria Sol Baumstarh. The event was broadcast by TyC Sports in
Buenos Aires, Argentina. Boxeo De Primera (BDP) which is affiliated with TyC
Sports has the video of the fight on its YouTube channel. Early in round seven,
a three-punch combination to the head by Baumstarh caused Cudos to drop her
right knee and glove to the canvas. Cudos got up from the knockdown, but that
was likely a 10-8 round in favor of Baumstarh.
Two commentators were unofficially scoring the fight. After nine rounds, the
commentators’ total scores were 90-80 and 87-83 both in favor of Baumstarh.
According to them, Baumstarh was winning the fight. However, the total judges’
scores after ten rounds were 96-93 in favor of Cudos, 96-93 in favor of
Baumstarh, and 95-94 in favor of Cudos. Cudos won by a split decision. Cudos
remains unbeaten with a record of 10-0-2, 3 KOs. Baumstarh’s record is now
12-7-1, 8 KOs. Baumstarh has never lost by knockout in her pro career.
Both Cudos and Baumstarh are among the top ten minimumweights in the world.
Prior to this fight, the computerized ratings of the International Boxing
Organization (IBO) rated Baumstarh as the No. 2 contender at minimumweight and
Cudos rated No. 3. Both Cudos and Baumstarh are Argentinian and all three judges
are from Argentina.
The IBF has ordered immediate rematches in the past when a boxer wins the title
by a controversial decision. However, that may not happen based on the new IBF
ratings which were updated after this fight. The ratings show that Cudos is the
IBF minimumweight champion. Kim Clavel of Canada is rated as the No. 1 contender
and Baumstarh is rated No. 2. Clavel recently won the vacant IBF
Intercontinental minimumweight title by unanimous decision over Anabel Ortiz of
Mexico.
On the undercard, Maira Moneo of Uruguay won the vacant WBO Latino super
featherweight title over Florencia Nicole Zalazar of Argentina by unanimous
decision in a ten-round bout. The total judges’ scores were 100-90, 97-93, and
96-94 in favor of Moneo by unanimous decision. Moneo improves her record to
16-2, 3 KOs. Zalazar’s record is now 6-2, 1 KO. Prior to this fight, Moneo had
been a contender in the lightweight division with a rating of No. 11 by the IBO.
