LAS VEGAS, NV – (March 10, 2025) The International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame would like to give our sincere thank you and congratulations for her 10 years of being our IWBHF Vice President.

Wanda Countiss’s foray into the boxing world began in the 1980s, rooted in a fervent interest that soon evolved into a thriving career. Her first major event, titled “Diva's in the Ring,” was slated for May 30, 2004, in Washington DC. Unfortunately, it faced an unexpected cancellation right at the front door due to last-minute setbacks. The disappointment was profound; Wanda had brought in Maria Lindberg from Germany, who suffered a severe health scare that day. Struggling with heartbreak, she initially considered walking away from the sport.

However, her resilience shone through when the nightclub owner proposed sponsorship for another event. With renewed hope and determination, Wanda said yes, marking the beginning of a successful career in matchmaking and promoting women’s boxing. "It was a turning point," she recalls. Little did she know, this would lead to a decade-long commitment to uplifting female fighters on a global stage.

Building a Legacy: Achievements Over the Years

Throughout her tenure, Countiss has worn many hats in the boxing industry. From matchmaker to promoter, her influence is deeply felt across various platforms. She organized numerous all-female boxing shows from Washington DC to Canada, Africa, and even Germany. Each event was not just a competition but a celebration of female athletes breaking barriers in a historically male-dominated sport.

Countiss has been particularly active in fostering international relationships within the boxing community, taking American fighters abroad and bringing foreign talent to compete in the U.S. Her dedication helped shape a more inclusive environment for women in boxing, allowing them to shine on stages they previously could not access. In fact, she has successfully managed over ten all-female amateur shows, showcasing her unwavering passion for promoting women's boxing at every level.

As Wanda celebrates her 10th anniversary, the IWBHF extends heartfelt gratitude for her indelible contributions to the organization. The board acknowledges her as an integral member whose diligence and expertise have been pivotal in planning and executing events. “I appreciate being given the opportunity to serve as Vice President of the IWBHOF and to work with a fantastic role model and friend, Sue Fox,” she expressed warmly. This acknowledgment underscores not only her professional accomplishments but also the genuine admiration and respect she has earned from peers and mentees alike.

Amazing accomplishments (not all) have included the following: Countiss has an impressive background in the world of women’s boxing. In May of 2004, she was Promoter/Matchmaker, for the first All Female Show, in Washington DC; In January of 2005, she served as Matchmaker for All-female Show, A Ring of Their Own; March 2005, Matchmaker for A Ring of Their Own, in Georgetown, Guyana; July of 2005 Matchmaker for a Female bout, Georgetown, Guyana; June of 2006, Matchmaker for All Female Show, in Hollywood, California; October of 2005, Matchmaker for All-Female Show, in Laughlin, Nevada; November of 2005, Matchmaker for All-Female Show, Edmonton, Canada; August of 2006, Matchmaker for All-Female Show, in Lake Tahoe, Nevada; January of 2007, Matchmaker for Female bout for Don King Promotions; July of 2007, Matchmaker for Female bout in Mombasa, Africa; December of 2007, Matchmaker for Female bout in Lusaka, Africa, and from 2007-201, Promoter for All Female Amateur Shows in Maryland.

Wanda’s story serves as an inspiration for emerging talents in boxing. Her ability to navigate challenges and remain committed to her passion exemplifies the spirit of perseverance. The successful events under her guidance are a testament to the positive changes she has fostered in women’s boxing.

As Countiss continues her tenure with the IWBHF, one thing is certain: her influence will resonate far beyond the ring. Her story is a powerful reminder of what is possible when passion meets purpose.
