Special Shout Out to “Women Cops Who Box”: Honoring Stephanie Han’s WBA World Championship Win
by Sue TL Fox
February 23, 2025

EL PASO, TEXAS (February 23, 2025) Last night at the El Paso County Coliseum, in El Paso, Texas, in the mainliner, Stephanie Han, now 10-0-0 (3KO), made it a short night when she stopped her opponent,  Hannah Terlep, now 5-2-1 (2KO) by KO in the first round to win the vacant WBA Lightweight World title.  It did not last long with Han throwing a barrage of combinations landing Terlep to the canvass.

Incredibly, Han balances her dual identity as a police officer and world-class boxer. By day, she serves the El Paso Police Department, embodying dedication and courage; by night, she transforms into a fierce competitor inside the boxing ring. This unique combination has made her a role model for many, particularly for women aspiring to break barriers.

This April, Han will travel to Las Vegas to receive a special award during the pre-celebration event at the International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame. Taking place on April 4-5, 2025, this event will honor Han alongside 12 other exceptional female boxers who also serve or have served in law enforcement. It promises to be a day of celebration as these trailblazing women are recognized for their contributions to both boxing and their communities.

Han's story is one of perseverance and passion. She stands as a beacon for aspiring athletes and women in law enforcement alike, proving that you can excel in multiple roles. Her triumph is more than just a win in the ring; it's a powerful message that determination can lead to greatness, regardless of the path chosen. As Han prepares to receive her special award in Las Vegas, her legacy continues to inspire future generations of women to pursue their dreams fearlessly.

As we celebrate Stephanie Han’s victory and her impending recognition at the International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame as a special award recipient, we are reminded of the incredible strength found in dual identities.

Han is a symbol of empowerment, showing how women can excel in all areas of life. From the boxing ring to the badge, she exemplifies the spirit of resilience and determination. Here’s to champions like Stephanie Han—may she continue to inspire and uplift others in their journeys!
