(FEB 16) Last night at the Estadio F.A.B. in Buenos Aires was
featured three female boxing bouts that showcased some newer female boxers on
the scene. The following are the fights that took place. Aldana Florencia Lopez vs. Leiryn
Flores: Aldana Florencia Lopez from Buenos Aires
faced off against Caracas native Leiryn Flores in a ten-round bout. Lopez who emerged victorious, not through a
conventional win, but via disqualification. The two were fighting for the WBA
Fedelatin Fly title.
In the ninth round, Flores was disqualified for
delivering a headbutt that left Lopez with a deep cut above her eye. The referee
deemed the injury severe enough to halt the contest, awarding Lopez a victory by
DQ.
In another bout on the card, Florencia Escalante made her professional
debut against Veronica Isabel Nunez in a four-round match. Fighting out of
Buenos Aires and weighing 127 pounds, Escalante demonstrated her potential early
on. The judges unanimously scored the bout in her favor with scorecards of
36-40, 35-40, and 36-40.
Escalante used her speed and footwork, keeping Nunez, who weighed in at 128 ½
pounds from Concordia, Entre Rios, at bay. While it may have been Nunez's
experience that placed her in the ring, it was undeniably Escalante’s night as
she proved herself this night, gaining
experience and confidence in the process.
In a third female bout, Leonela Rosa Sanchez also made her
professional debut later that evening. Weighing in at 121 pounds, Sanchez faced
Romina Garro, who came in slightly heavier at 121 ¼ pounds. This four-round
contest ended with Sanchez earning a unanimous decision win, with all three
judges scoring the bout 40-36 in her favor.
