(FEB 3) In an evening of boxing held at the
Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan, Claressa "T-Rex" Shields delivered a
performance that captivated fans and reaffirmed her status as a dominant force
in women's boxing. Faced against the much larger, taller, and older Danielle
Perkins, Shields showcased her skills, and agility culminating in a spectacular
victory.
As the two fighters stepped into the ring, the stark contrast in their sizes was
striking. In contrast, 42-year-old Perkins towered over her. Yet, as the bell
rang, it became clear that size does not always equate to strength or skill in
boxing.
The Turning Point: Round Three - By the third round, it became evident that
Perkins was struggling to keep pace with Shields. The intensity escalated when
the referee intervened to separate the two fighters. In that moment, Perkins
stumbled and fell to the canvas, forcing the referee to assess the situation.
Each round saw Shields grow more confident, landing precise jabs and powerful
hooks that kept Perkins on the defensive. This showcase of speed and technique
contrasted sharply with Perkins' heavier, slower style, underscoring the
importance of agility in the sport.
With only 15 seconds left in the tenth round, Shields landed a perfect right
hand directly to Perkins' chin, sending her to the mat. It was a
dramatic conclusion to a great fight between Shields and Perkins. Shields had
not only won but had demonstrated her place among the elite in boxing history.
Shields won by a ten-round unanimous decision.
Shields is the undisputed heavyweight champion with
winning the IBF, WBC, WBO, WBF World titles. Shields is now 16-0-0 (3KO)
and Perkins is now 5-1-0 (2KO).
