(DEC 30) Costa Rica’s own Hanna Gabriels, 166 ¾,
showcased her undeniable talent and grit last night at Finca La Montana in San
Jose. After a lengthy hiatus from professional boxing, Hanna made her comeback
in stopping Sara Anti Gabriel, 166 ½, in the fourth round of their scheduled
six-round bout.
Hanna Gabriels' journey has been anything but ordinary. She first burst onto the
boxing scene with her fierce dedication and remarkable skills, quickly becoming
a beacon of inspiration for aspiring female boxers everywhere. Her previous
fight, which took place on April 17, 2021, saw her defeat Martha Patricia Lara
Gaytan.
Women’s boxing has gained significant recognition over the years, thanks in part
to trailblazers like Gabriels.
One thing is for sure: Hanna Gabriels is back, and she’s ready to make her mark
once again in women’s boxing. She had said after the fight that she would like
to have a rematch with Claressa Shields at the 168 weight division.
Gabriels fought Shields in 2018 where she lost to Shields by a ten-round
unanimous decision. The two were fighting for the IBF Middleweight world
title at the time.
Shields vs. Gabriels were supposed to rematch in June of 2023, but just prior to
the fight, Per a copy of the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency report that had
been obtained by Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix, Gabriels' sample returned
positive for clostebol, a testosterone derivative. So she was replaced with a
last-minute opponent.
