Oshae Jones Defeats Femke Hermans to
Win IBF and IBO Super Welterweight Titles

(NOV 29) On Friday night, November 22nd, at Corey Studios in Atlanta,
Georgia, Oshae “Suga” Jones of Toledo, Ohio won the IBF and IBO
super welterweight titles against Femke “Thunder” Hermans of
Belgium.
Hermans was making the third defense of her IBO title
and the first defense of her IBF title. Hermans had defeated Mary
Spencer of Canada by unanimous decision to win the vacant IBO
title in 2022. In the rematch in 2023, Hermans defeated Spencer
by majority decision to win the vacant IBF title.
Spencer is
currently rated the No. 3 contender in the super welterweight
division by the IBO.
Hermans’ opponent in this fight was Oshae Jones who was rated
No. 5 by the IBO. Jones is 26 years of age whereas Hermans is
34. They are both the same height at 5’8”. Jones weighed at the
super welterweight limit which is 154 pounds and Hermans weighed
153.2 pounds. Hermans had a one-inch reach advantage with a 67”
reach and Jones’ reach was 66”.Hermans vs. Jones was presented
by Overtime Boxing. The fight was uploaded to their YouTube
channel which is OTX.
In Round One began with Jones in a southpaw stance. It was a close
round and difficult to score in favor of one or the other. In
round two, Jones landed a big right hook to the head just before
the round ended. Jones out-landed Hermans in round three. In round
four, Hermans landed a big right hook to the head of Jones and
Jones immediately did the same to Hermans which caused Hermans
to move to one corner of the ring.
After four rounds, Jones
landed about 30 more punches than Hermans with 62 for Jones and 32 for
Hermans.
In a women's boxing match, round five saw Hermans perform better
than Jones in the first minute, but Jones came back strong in
the second minute. Round six was intense, with both fighters
having their moments. Hermans showed more activity than Jones in
rounds seven and eight.

After eight
rounds, Jones was still ahead on the number of punches landed
with 119 for Jones and 62 for Hermans. As previously stated,
Jones had 62 punches landed after four rounds. Hermans reached
that amount after eight rounds while Jones added 57 punches for
a total of 119 punches landed. Round nine was another brutal
round, but Jones had the edge. In the tenth and final round,
Jones finished strong with left and right hands to the head.
Final judges scores were 97-93 for Hermans; 97-93 and 96-94 for
Jones, with Jones winning a 10-round split decision, and
becoming the new IBF and IBO Super Welterweight World Champion. Jones remains undefeated and improves her
record to 8-0, 3 KOs whereas Hermans is now 18-5, 7 KOs.
