(NOV 28) Former IBF world
featherweight champion Sarah Mahfoud (14-2) will return to the
ring on Friday, November 29, to face seasoned Brazilian
contender Danila Ramos (13-3) at Frederiksberg Hallerne in
Copenhagen, Denmark.
This high-stakes matchup pits the WBO’s top two ranked
featherweight contenders against each other for the WBO
International title, with the winner hoping to secure the top
contender spot to challenge Amanda Serrano for the WBO
featherweight title.
For Mahfoud, this marks her first fight since a hard-fought
points loss to WBC featherweight champion Skye Nicolson earlier
this year in Las Vegas. Determined to bounce back, Mahfoud will
aim to reaffirm her status as one of the division’s elite in
what promises to be a fiercely competitive showdown.
Both Sarah Mahfoud and Danila Ramos have previously faced Amanda
Serrano and come up short. Ramos went the distance in a grueling
and historic 12 three-minute rounds bout last year for the WBO,
WBA, and IBF titles, but she lost every round on the judges’
scorecards. In contrast, Mahfoud managed to win three rounds in
a 10-round points decision loss to Serrano in 2022.
Mahfoud entered her fight against Serrano on just five weeks’
notice, balancing her preparation with a demanding job at a
hospital. Despite those challenges, she delivered a valiant
effort. Now, with the benefit of full preparation and singular
focus, Mahfoud is determined to make a statement in her first
fight since her defeat to Skye Nicolson, the only other blemish
on her professional record.
»Danila Ramos is a very strong opponent to face directly after
my last defeat. We are ranked 1 and 2 by the WBO, and I know she
is tough, strong, and technically skilled. She, for one, doesn’t
walk backwards in the ring. That’s why I believe we can deliver
a really good fight together. Of course, I also believe I can
win this one,« said Sarah Mahfoud, who held the IBF world
featherweight title from 2020 to 2022.
Ramos, the veteran fighter out of Buenos Aires by way of Sao
Paulo, Brazil is a former WBO Interim world featherweight
champion, and she shares the hope of securing another world
title fight.
»My goal is to become world champion again, and I know that I’m
in the best phase of my boxing career right now. My greatest
strength is that I am a strong and experienced boxer who has
faced tough opponents and built up a wealth of boxing
experience,« said Danila Ramos.
Danish super middleweight prospect, Oliver Zaren (14-0, 5 KOs),
is set to face Mexican fighter Carlos Gallego Montijo (14-8, 9
KOs) in an eight-round clash. The night will also see the
professional debuts of a group of national and Nordic amateur
champions who have excelled in Olympic-style boxing.
Swedish heavyweight Genti Morina, a two-time Swedish and
two-time Nordic champion, steps into the professional ranks
alongside Danish-Ukrainian heavyweight Nicolay Piddubnyy, the
reigning Nordic amateur champion. Joining them is Danish
featherweight Frederik Lundgaard Jensen, an exceptional talent
with ten Danish national titles, eight Nordic championships, and
an astonishing amateur career that includes over 280 bouts.
The undercard also features Danish prospects like cruiserweight
Hamza Hussein (7-0), Mathias Hansen (5-0), Victor Ramon (3-0),
and Sofie Rosshaug (1-0), while Welsh boxer Mark Davies (6-0)
takes on Ukraine’s Anatolii Burdiian (5-4-1).
This event marks a significant milestone as it celebrates
Bettina Palle’s 25 years as a boxing promoter. Bettina, the
daughter of legendary boxing promoter and matchmaker Mogens
Palle (1934–2022), has been a pivotal figure in Danish boxing.
She began her career in the 1990s, managing and promoting
fighters, and her two first signings were Denmark’s first female
boxer and the young Mikkel Kessler, who would later become a
world champion.
In 1999, Bettina took over as promoter while her father focused
on matchmaking. Together, they forged a legacy, producing world
and European champions and organizing iconic events, including
the Mike Tyson vs. Brian Nielsen fight in 2001 and most of
Kessler’s world title bouts.
