Green Defeats Watpool to Win Vacant WBO Super Middleweight Title
by Ron Scarfone
November 20, 2024

(NOV 20) On Friday night, November 15th, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Shadasia “The Sweet Terminator” Green of Paterson, New Jersey won the vacant WBO super middleweight title against Melinda “The Whip” Watpool of Ontario, Canada.

This fight was on the undercard of the Netflix Live Event presented by Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) which had the rematch of Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano.Green and Watpool are the top two contenders in the super middleweight division according to the WBO with Green at No. 1 and Watpool at No. 2.

Green weighed 167.8 pounds and Watpool weighed a pound less at 166.8 pounds. Both are 5’8” in height and are both 35 years of age. Green had a four-inch reach advantage with 71” compared to Watpool with 67”. Netflix sports uploaded the fight to YouTube along with other undercard bouts. The time stamp for Green vs. Watpool is 1:53:50.

Rounds one and two were clearly won by Green. The third round was close and arguably could have been won by either Green or Watpool, but I scored it for Green. Watpool was landing more punches than Green in rounds four and five. Watpool was staying close to Green as if they were in a phone booth. Green was landing big punches to the head in round six.

Watpool was out landing Green in round seven and it seemed that Green was a little fatigued from the previous round. Green arguably won round eight and Watpool was better in round nine. I scored the tenth and final round for Green. My unofficial scorecard was 96-94 in favor of Green. The total scores of the judges were 97-93 for Green, 96-94 for Watpool, and 96-94 for Green. Therefore, Green won by split decision.

Green improves her record to 15-1, 11 KOs. Her only loss was to Franchon Crews Dezurn by unanimous decision which was for the vacant WBC super middleweight title. Watpool has her first defeat as a pro and is now 7-1, 2 KOs.
