(NOV 1) COLORADO SPRINGS,
Colo. -– Team USA sends five boxers on to the finals and a
chance to win gold at the 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships.
USA hopes to bring back five gold medals in the inaugural World
Boxing U19 Championships.
Team USA, Lorenzo Patricio (Waianae, Hawaii), was the first bout
against Rishi Singh out of India and dominated from start to
finish. Patricio went on to win on a unanimous decision and
advanced to the finals where he will face Mohamed Al Manouchi
out of Germany. These two 50 kg boxers will box tomorrow,
November 1, in bout two.
Emmanuel Chance (East Orange, N.J.) followed Patricio as he
boxed Pal Krrish out of India and is moving on to the finals
after a unanimous decision victory. Chance will have a two-day
rest and will be back at it for gold November 2, against Fuma
Kumamoto out of Japan.
Team USA power hitters, Joseph Awinongya (Joliet, Ill.) and
Elijah Lugo (Marietta, Ga.) continue to demonstrate their
strength and power as both boxers gave their opponent another
8-count in their semifinal bouts.
Awinongya went up against Mustapha Abdou out of Algeria and
dominated and gave the Algerian boxer an 8-count in the final
round and moved on to the gold round. Awinongya will be the
fourth bout on November 1 and will go head-to-head for the gold
medal against Rahul Kundu out of India.
Lugo was the final bout of the day yesterday and drew the whole
venue's attention over to Ring B to watch Elijah Lugo vs Sofian
Bizzit out of Germany. With crowds flooding over to see these
two light heavyweights go punch for punch for three rounds, the
American would give the German an 8-count in the first round and
then came out on top with a 3-2 split decision victory and will
move on for a chance at gold. Lugo will now box Nikita
Prohovskis out of Latvia, November 1 and will be the sixth bout
of the day.
Heavyweight Rishon Sims (Harrisburg, Pa.) earned his first
unanimous decision victory yesterday over Noveki Tomokino out of

Sangwan out of India on November 2 and will be the tenth bout of
the day.
