Argentina:  Maria Magdalena Rivera Wins by a Fifth Round TD over Jacqueline Calvo
by WBAN
August 24, 2024

(AUG 24) Last night at the Casino de Buenos Aires, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in a live boxing event, and promoted by the World Boxing Association, in one of the mainliners, Maria Magdalena Rivera, 111, won a fifth round technical decision in a scheduled ten-round bout against Jacqueline Calvo, 111 ½, when Calvo received several headbutts in the bout. The fight went to the scorecards of the judges that were 46-49, 47-48, and 47-48. The referee made that decision when Calvo received an eye injury. Rivera is now 14-6-3 (3KO), and Calvo is 21-9-2 (2KO).

This victory marks an important milestone for Rivera, who has been steadily climbing the rankings in her weight division. Despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding Calvo's injury, it was a hard-fought battle that showcased the determination and skill of both fighters. With this win, Rivera's record improves, further solidifying her presence in the boxing world. As for Calvo, she will undoubtedly regroup and come back stronger in her next bout.

It is worth noting the significance of this win for Rivera.  With each victory, her reputation as a formidable opponent grows, and it will be interesting to see what future challenges await her on her.

In a second female bout, scheduled for ten rounds, Veronica Zuluaga, 110 lbs, of Colombia, will be facing a local boxer, Lucrecia Arrieta, 118.2. Results are pending at this time. [Video of weigh-in above].
