(AUG 12) On Saturday night
at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada,
promoted by Oscar De La Hoya/Tom Loeffler
featured two women's fights on the card.
In one of the matches, Cecilia Braekhus, of Bergen, Norway,
faced off against late replacement opponent Mari Cornejo, of Los
Angeles, California.
Although Braekhus initially had a slow
start, she eventually shook off any ring rust and displayed her
exceptional skills and boxing abilities throughout the rest of
the fight against Cornejo. Braekhus won the bout by a ten-round
unanimous decision over Cornejo, earned the Interim WBC Super
welterweight title.
In a second female bout, Gabriel Fundora, winning a ten-round
unanimous decision over Daniela Asenjo, winning all ten rounds
of the fight over Asenjo and sucessfully defeated her IBF Flyweight World
champion. Final judges scores of the fight between Fundora vs.
Asenjo was 100-90 on all cards.
The event showcased the incredible talent and determination of
these female fighters, proving once again that women's boxing is
just as thrilling and competitive as its male counterpart.
In a third bout, Jennah Creason,
making her pro debut, of Visalia, California, won a four-round
split decision over Kelsey Wickstrum, of Redding, California.
Final judges scores were 39-37, 36-40, and 37-39.
The success of this event not only highlights the rising
popularity of women's boxing, but also the growing recognition
and support for female athletes.
The fighters who stepped into the ring that night proved that
they are not just competitors, but trailblazers.
