(JUNE 30) Last night at the Footprint Center,
in Phoenix, Arizona,
Yamileth Mercado, of Mexico, 121 lbs., won a ten-round
unanimous decision over Ramla Ali, 122 lbs., of Greenwich,
London, UK. The two were fighting for the WBC World Super
Bantamweight title. Mercado was defending her title, and
successfully retained her title. The final judges scores
were 93-98, 93-97, and 92-98. Mercado improved her record
to 24-3-0 (5KO), and Ali experienced her second loss as a pro
and is now 9-2-0 (2KO).
In a pre-fight interview, Ramla
said that she would prefer the fight to take place in London,
but that it was either take in in Arizona or nothing. She
said it was not going to stop her from achieving her dream.
Ramla said of her opponent Mercado that she as a good boxer, and
that would be good for her. That Mercado is strong and
throws a lot of punches, and has good technique.
Ali displayed great determination
throughout the match, but Mercado's experience and skill proved
to be a formidable challenge. Despite the loss, Ali's
performance showcased her potential and resilience in the ring.
