Michelle Preston fights former world champion in hopes for world title shot

(FEB 4) WBA International and Oceania champion Michelle Preston will defend her International title against former WBA World Champion Maribel Ramirez on March 18th in hopes to get a world title shot next.

Jason Suttie's regular Kickboxing eight-man tournament “King in the Ring” will be returning to Eventfinda Stadium on the North Shore, Auckland, New Zealand. This tournament will feature eight of New Zealand's best Lightweight boxers. King in the Ring for those who don’t know has shown if you can win multiple King in the Ring eight-man titles, it is a shortcut to achieving a UFC contract.

On the card this televised amazing event, what they call a super fight will take place on the cards with Michelle Preston making her first WBA International title defence against Mexican boxer Maribel Ramirez. The UK Born New Zealand citizen Michelle Preston who is a 5-time Muay Thai World champion made her professional boxing debut in 2007 and is a true pioneer in Boxing.

Since making her return in May 2022, she has won the WBA Oceania title and the WBA International titles in the Super Flyweight division. She is only fingertips away from a World title. Preston is already a two-time World title contender and wants one more world title shot before retiring from combat sports.

Maribel Ramirez is a former WBA World Super Flyweight champion, holding the title between 2018 and 2022 before losing it to Clara Lescurat. Ramirez being former World Champion and Preston being WBA International Champion, surely the winner deserves either the number 1 position or a world title shot after this.

Currently, the plan for Preston is if she wins against Ramirez, she wants WBC Interim World Super Flyweight champion Adelaida Ruiz next. Preston is scheduled to fight on the first ever IBF World title fight between Lani Daniels and Alrie Meleisea undercard. Preston plays her cards right, she will fight Adelaida Ruiz next on that card. After that, she aims for the top spot of world champions.

Currently, there are four world Super flyweight champions with WBA Clara Lescurat, WBO Mizuki Hiruta, WBC Asley Gonzalez and IBF Micaela Milagros Lujan. Michelle Preston has been following the WBA pathway, which makes sense to fight for the WBA World title in the future. However, Preston is a two-time IBF World title contender.

There are two fights that would be interesting to see, however, they are not on Preston's radar right now. Holly McMath wants a rematch with Michelle Preston after their split decision loss. McMath claims she was robbed and should have gotten the win.

Another interesting fight would be against Susie Ramadan. Preston has fought Ramadan three times in the past with Ramadan coming away with the win each time. A rematch would certainly be interesting especially when Preston is fingertips away from a world title shot.
