(NOV 18) South African
Cruiserweight champion Razel Mohammed has taken to social media
to call out the Number one ranked heavyweight female boxer, Lani
Daniels (Ngāti Hine, Ngāpuhi, Te Orewai).
Razel Mohammed, currently ranked 4th on IBO, won her South
African national title in March this year. Currently undefeated
with three wins and two draws, the majority of her career her
fights against Jounryman Lillian Molala in their trilogy. We
last saw Mohammed in August when she defeated undefeated boxer
Rolen Mulebo.
Razel Mohammed matchmaker Frank Pittal said on Facebook
”Reigning South African cruiser champion sends out a message to
New Zealand world champion Lani Daniels ‘come out, Come out
where ever you are, it’s time to DANCE in the Rain’ IBO ranked 4
in the world Razzell is willing to move up to heavyweight to get
this fight on !!”.
Mohammed said, “Let's do this. I'm a South African
Springbok... We eat ferns for breakfast. I'll introduce you to a
bit of African power.”.
Lani Daniels who is currently ranked 1st in WBC and 2nd in WBA,
is enthusiastic about the callout, as this is the first time in
her career that she has been called out by a boxer. The
three-time New Zealand Champion recognises that being called out
in boxing is a compliment as it shows recognition for what you
did in your career when someone takes aim at you.
Daniels replied on social media “well I hope you like eating
fists for dinner because that's what’s on the menu once that
bell goes a knuckle sandwich with a bit of fern will call
it the African power special because it packs a punch.
Speaking with Mohammed matchmaker Frank Pittal has said “Caiph
mac her manager and trainer asked me if we can sound out a few
world title challengers, unfortunately, the few we targeted a
couple of Russian girls due to recent events”. He continued to
acknowledge that New Zealand has some of the best female boxers
in the world, especially in the heavier-weight divisions.
Including boxers like former WBO Light Heavyweight champion
Geovana Peres, former WBA & WBC world-ranked boxer Alrie
Meleisea, WBA-ranked 3rd Sequita Hemingway and former WBC ranked
boxer, Sarah Long.
Daniels has stated that she received many offers privately
including world title offers, however, Daniels and her team are
not rushing into things as they want to plan her career smartly.
Daniels has stated she only has a few years left in her boxing
career however she aims to be a world champion before she
retires.
Originally Daniels’s next fight was in negotiation to take on
Sequita Hemingway for Lani Daniels's homecoming fight. Daniels
has yet to fight in her hometown as a professional.
Unfortunately, the negotiations fell through, however, Sequita
Hemingway will now be fighting Alrie Meleisea in a rematch. It
is expected that this fight could lead to a possible world title
fight for the winner against Lani Daniels.
Daniels's next fight has not been announced yet, however, what
we do know is it will be happening in February against an
undefeated boxer from Australia in the Super Middleweight
division. This boxer has fought in New Zealand before back in
2019. This fight will be promoted on Bruce Glozier's next fight
night. We hope to get more details on the event soon.
