Former WBO World Champion announces third Muay Thai fight
by Benjamin Watt

(OCT 12) Brazilian Born New Zealander Geovana Peres has announced her third fight in Muay Thai since retiring as World Boxing Champion. This will be her biggest challenge as she takes on experienced MMA Fighter Faith McMah for a title.

Geovana Peres broke many barriers in the New Zealand boxing community including becoming the first LGBT person to win a New Zealand boxing title and the first LGBT person to represent New Zealand to win a major World boxing title. Since announcing her retirement from the boxing ring she has made a big career move to Kickboxing/Muay Thai.

In April 2021, she made her debut in Muay Thai when she took on multiple tournament world youth MMA champion Roezala Su'e. Similar to when Peres made her pro boxing debut, she lost a close fight.

Four months later, Peres was back in the ring against Australian Golden Gloves Boxing Champion and North American Kickboxing Champion Gina Gee. Peres won the fight by Unanimous Decision as well as becoming the first person to win the Fau Vake Warrior's Heart Memorial Shield.

In her next fight, Peres will be taking another big step up as she takes on an experience MMA fight Faith McMah. McMah is well known for her time in MMA under promotions “Invicta Fighting Championships” as well as fighting in a tournament in Australia's “Storm MMA”.

Two highlights of her career were winning the eight-women Storm MMA tournament to win the Storm MMA Woman's Featherweight Championship and taking on the legendary MMA fighter Cris Cyborg for the Invicta FC Featherweight Championship. In Muay Thai she was a WKBF Junior Welterweight Champion as well as a 2014 No Gi National Champion Purple belt in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu. Overall she is an experienced and talented fighter.

The event will be happening on Guy Fawkes on the 5th of November at the Te Atatu Peninsula Community Centre. It has been advertised that Geovana Peres vs Faith McMah will be fighting for the WMC Professional Heavyweight title. However, it does not say if the title is a New Zealand national or World title. The event is under the Art of War promotions which will be having its 18th event. The event is promoted by City Lee Gar owner Tony Angelov.
