(NOV 6) Last night at the
Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada, boxing fans were delighted
with a superb display of a couple of the best female boxers in
the professional ranks.
Mikaela Mayer, 129½, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, took on one
of the toughest battles so far as a pro after having a
successful career in the amateurs, when she fought Maiva
Hamadouche, 128½, of Fontenay le Fleury, Paris, France went
toe-to-toe with Mayer, in what was described as one of the best
female fights this year.
Final Judges scores were 92-98,
91-99, and 90-100. Mayer won both the IBF and the WBO
Super Featherweight World Titles.
Many throughout the reports of this fight, felt the scores were
off but other than that it was noted that Mayer won the fight
decisively.
In the post-fight interview
ringside, Mayer, was very professional and respectful in her
comments on the fight and Hamadoche---and how she had prepared
very hard to fight her. It was nice to see a fighter of
her stature not trash her opponent, but gave Hamadoche credit as
a great boxer.
Congrats to Mayer, who is showing
the world that she is ready for the big fights and continues to
be a fighter to keep your eye on!
