(NOV 5) This last weekend
on October 30-31, the Beautiful Brawlers 10th Anniversary
Amateur boxing event took place in Pacifica, California, and it
was two full days of action-packed fighting from these young
elite athletics.
I was able to attend the Sunday, October 31st event, after
flying in from Portland, Oregon, to cover this day, and I will
say that it did not disappoint. I am amazed at what Blanca
Gutierrez, owner of Baby Face Gym, coach, mentor, organizer,
well, let's put it this way---she wears so many hats I am bound
to not mention one, or two...
Alongside Blanca, her husband, her sister, Lupi Beagle
Gutierrez, and so many others that are dedicated to the
promotion and advancement of women's boxing in the amateurs, I
seriously could not list them all. Just know that WBAN saw
all of you doing an unbelievable job in having another
successful year in this annual event for the amateur boxers.
The Gutierrez's dedicated this event to their father, saying the
following: "Beautiful Brawlers celebrates our 10th
Anniversary this weekend with a 2-Day tournament. We dedicate
this as always to our dad. A boxer in the 50s, our dad
didn’t believe in women in the sport. I know he’s looking down
smiling because we showed him we do and we’re doing it in his
name: BabyFace"
In this two-day event, 34 of the
amateur female boxers that competed won the Beautiful Brawler's
belt. The following were the winners for the two-day
competition.
Emily Marcos, Alyssa Samorano,
Brianna Castillo, Perla Balzadua, Binki Rodriguez, Vicky Zhal,
Kayla Gomez, Maddi Hernandez, Yazmin Rosales, Thalia Tamayo,
Britney Martinez, Brianna Martinez, Malaya Wohosky, Yulli
Buenrostro, Paulena Miles, Bianca Benz, Andrea Sitton, Jennah
Creason, Genesis Garcia, Liliana Santiago, Kendra Reeves, Alyssa Mendoza, Lexus
Ramirez, Maya Hernandez, Yesenia Ruiz, Phoebe Perez, Sheelyn P.,
Malaya Wohosky, Marley
McNealy, I’Jayla Smith, Brianna Jimendez, Rebekah Alvarez,
Christal Barajas, Kathia Estrada, Ava De Camp, Angely Guerrero,
and Natasha McQueen. (please contact WBAN if there are
missing names and miss-spelled names at wban100@aol.com)
I would like to congratulate all
of the fighters who fought in this last weekend's event.
As I sat outside the ring and watched each match, we had a
winner and one that did not win----with one receiving the belt,
and one receiving a medal---but just know that WBAN sees all of
you as doing the sport proud---and it was truly amazing to see
the talent at this event.
I took a lot of video at this event, and will be posting some
of it soon....
