(APR 13) After her win on P3
Promotions event this previous weekend and her NZPBA New Zealand
national Lightweight title win over Tania Reid a couple of weeks
ago, what is next for Mea Motu?
Mea has done amazingly well in
the first six months of her professional boxing career. People
have forgotten she has only been competing as a pro since last
October. Already she is ranked 1st in her weight division and
3rd p4p in the New Zealand rankings. But what is next for her?
What does she need to do? The good news is there are still 4
more New Zealand boxers she can take on that can test her before
battling overseas.
This would be a true test for Mea
Motu. Yes is 46 and she has not fought as a professional boxer
since her win over Karen Te Ruki Pasene, but she keeps active as
a kickboxer. The last time she was in the Boxrec rankings she
was ranked 5th in the welterweight division in the world. Not
only that, she could fight in any division between 55kg to 69
kgs. Former WBA Oceania Super Featherweight, former WIBA World
Super Bantamweight, former NZPBA Lightweight champion and former
top 10 ranked boxer in all major boxing sanctioning bodies.
Currently, her record is 6 wins 3 loses 1 draw with 3 wins
coming by way of knockout. She is also a Muay Thai fighter,
Kickboxer and MMA Fighter with her fight record getting close to
40 fights in total.
Like Gentiane Lupi, Baby Nansen
is a Muay Thai fighter, Kickboxer and most recently MMA Fighter.
She has fought and beaten all of New Zealand’s best boxers.
However, she has not fought Mea yet. Baby Nansen highest ranking
in the world boxing bodies is 40th in the WBC. She has made
history by becoming the first New Zealand female to compete as a
boxer at Madison Square Garden. She is a former PBCNZ New
Zealand National Super Lightweight champion and the current
South Pacific Super Lightweight champion. Currently, her record
is 9 wins 4 losses and 1 draw with only 1 win coming by way of
knockout.
The navy officer Karen Te Ruki
Pasene is a tough professional boxer. She didn’t come from a
massive amateur background but she did compete as a corporate.
Also from Northland, a fight with Mea could draw a big hometown
crowd between these two individuals. Her biggest win was when
she defeated the now-retired Australasian champion for the PBCNZ
New Zealand national Super Lightweight title. Her current record
is 2 wins 2 loses 0 draws with 1 win coming by way of knockout.
Another Northland boxer, a fight
against Quinita Hati could really draw a crowd in Northland. She
did not have a big amateur background either and her record
doesn’t seem like much, but she can’t be knocked out and she has
fought some close fights with some of New Zealand’s and
Australia’s bests. Just like Baby Nansen and Gentiane Lupi, she
is also a Kickboxer and Muay Thai fighter. She is a former PBCNZ
New Zealand national Lightweight champion after defeating Tania
Reid in their second bout. Her record is 1 win 5 loses 1 draw.
Finally the bronze medalist at
the Commonwealth games. Troy Garton has just only started her
professional boxing career and we are all excited to see her
fight more often. This is a fight that everyone wants to see but
this is not a right now fight. This is a fight after Troy has
fought more herself and get more experience in the pro games.
Can you imagine Troy vs. Mea for a Major Regional title? Troy
won her first fight over the weekend against Ayisha Abied.
