(APRIL 16) Geovana Peres
loses her debut amateur Muay Thai fight against IFMA Junior Gold
Medalist and GAMMA World Champion Roezala Su'e. However, she
earned the respect of the kickboxing and Muay Thai community,
plus she feels like a winner.
Geovana Peres said that 2020 was
not a good year for her. She was mentally not in a good place
and having four-fight camps that ended up being cancelled in the
end putting her into depression and anxiety. The ring is where
she feels she belong and the ring is what she loved. But due to
covid19 and at the same timing having a world champion status,
she could never fight.
Being able to fight again has taken her out of that dark place.
She was able to lose a lot of weight that she gain due to being
less active, from just being able to train again for this fight.
Now she is the happiest she has ever been. She doesn’t feel like
she lost, more that she has found her fire against. Now her fire
is burning and she is hungry to fight again.
This fight between Geovana Peres and Roezala Su'e is something
that you don’t often see in New Zealand. First of all, we have a
major Boxing world champion fighting an amateur Muay Thai world
champion and amateur MMA world champion. On top of that, you
never see a boxer transition to fight as a Muay Thai or
kickboxer. It’s incredibly rare to see as it is always easier to
fight an MMA fight, kickboxer or Muay Thai fighter in a boxing
fight than going over to their combat sport to fight their
combat rules. Due to this, Geovana Peres has earned the respect
of the Kickboxing and Muay Thai fight community.
Before this fight, Geovana Peres was not sure if she will
continue on this fight pathway. Now after the fight, despite the
loss, she feels hungrier and happier than ever and will continue
to fight as a Muay Thai fighter and kickboxer. The next plan is
to get a couple more fights and experience, then to Roezala Su'e
in a rematch for a title in the future.
Geovana accomplished so much in her career so far. She became
the first person from the rainbow community to win the
Professional New Zealand National Boxing title and the first
person from the rainbow community to represent New Zealand to
win a major world boxing title. She now has a new goal in her
career to become the first person from New Zealand to have won a
major world boxing title and Kickboxing/Muay Thai title. She is
halfway there, now it’s time for her to climb those rankings.
Despite the loss, she has made her friends, her team and her
community extremely proud. We will continue to support Geovana
and how far she will go in her career.
