Yvette Raposo: A "Ring" of her own in
Canada and much more!
November 30, 2020
(NOV 30) Yvette Raposo is
one of the most diverse females in the sport today----there is
hardly anything that she has not done or is actively doing today
in the sport. Yvette's legacy is as a boxing
entrepreneur, instructor and
speaker to the benefits of boxing
training used as a life-learning tool. 20 plus years of her life
has been devoted to study and teach fighting and fitness, and
everything in between.
Yvette's life has come full
circle in the square circle in recent years when she was invited
to step back through the ropes: This time as one of the first
and currently only professional female boxing Ring Announcers in
Canada.
This is a rare position for any
woman to uphold in such a male-dominated role and Yvette
performs proudly in every fight show with a touch of class, a
wealth of knowledge and plenty of passion.
As an entrepreneur, Yvette’s journey in the fitness and boxing
industry has been as diverse and exciting as a boxing match
itself!
She takes every opportunity to introduce the sport to as
many people as possible by using analogies from the ring and
applying them as lessons to every day life. This was the theme
of her boxing talk radio show which she hosted for almost two
years when she had the pleasure of researching and
interviewing fighters, coaches and promoters to raise the
visibility of the sport, increase the fan base and provide the
fighters with a platform for more exposure.
“Think like a boxer,
live as a Champ” is her motto and although fights in Canada are
on hold for now, Yvette always stays ring ready and is looking
forward to continue blazing trails and leaving tracks.
Yvette said to WBAN,
"before the pandemic hit, as far as I know and have researched,
I am the first and only active Professional female ring
announcer in Canada. ---and one of very few in the world, and as
you know, that's a tough ceiling to burst through in such a male
dominant role."
At this time, WBAN would agree that she is indeed the first pro
ring announcer in Canada, and if that is not the case we would
like to be contacted with further information.
In an interview in 2001 on You Tube (above), Yvette Raposo talks about fighting
as an amateur, and about what she wanted to do in the sport, in
and outside of the ring. The video also has some gym
footage of Raposo sparring in the gym and training in the gym. There
is also a video on one of her amateur boxing matches (below).
WBAN would like to take the time to thank Yvette for taking the
time to be interviewed! We will continue to update boxing
fans on Yvette's latest news!
