(SEPT 9) When Female Boxing
Was not Cool! Check out a new segment WBAN will be doing on the
history of the Sport. This is one of the few magazines at the
time in the 1970's that even gave "any" ink to female Boxing.
This is out of the Boxing Illustrated Magazine, dated September
1974! They were one of the first to actually publish female
boxing ratings at the time. Source: WBAN Library of history/

It is amazing how far this sport
have come throughout the years. WBAN would like to share
some of the "Flash From the Past" coverage, that was sporadic
and inconsistent, but we were at least fortunate to have Boxing
Illustrated Magazine making attempts through the 1970's to give
some recognition to the female warriors who fought in the past.
In this issue, it covered Barbara Buttrick, who fought in the
1950s, and her opponents, and a great article on the Junior
Missy Gloves, that was a great effort in the past to get female
boxers into the amateurs. They struggled through years to
get this to happen.
