Boxing, Metro (“Metro”) opened the 2020 Ring Masters
Championships: Road to the Garden at Amazura Night Club in
Jamaica, Queens. Boxing fans experienced some of the best
amateur boxing in the world, they also had the opportunity to
mix and mingle with boxing stars and boxing world notables who
came out to support the event. Proceeds will help send Elite
Division champions to the National Golden Gloves in Tulsa,
Oklahoma, in May.
“We are excited to start our tournament at one of New York's
action-packed night clubs with a history of featuring former
Golden Gloves champs and many pro boxers on their regular pro
boxing shows. Amazura's club feel and sound system gave the
exciting bouts tonight more energy and helped make the
experience one that any sports fan should not miss, " said Ray
Cuadrado, Metro President.
At Amazura on February 6 and day 2 at Gleason's Athletic Club,
February 8 fans poured into the shows in support of their
favorite boxers. Thursday, Josh Rivera, SweatBox Boxing Club,
put on a sterling performance in front of a huge crowd of
adoring fans who came out to support him. Saturday at Gleason's
the winner of the Metro Venue Fan Favorite Award Victor
Candelario, representing Everybody Fights, just edged out
stablemate, Jose Calderon, who won the Sting Power Punch Award.
Also in the race for fan favorite was Peter LaTorre, Westbury
Boxing Club, who won the Smoker Talk Fan Favorite Award for the
outpouring of fan engagement online. Peter, a former marine who
won his first ever bout said, "I was completely energized by the
people who came out to see me tonight. I felt like it helped
propel me to victory."
