New Zealand News:  Short Notice Rematch Confirmed
by Benjamin Watt
September 25, 2019

(SEPT 25) Due to Sarah Long (3-3-0) opponent in a kickboxing fight pulled out for this weekends event in ABA Stadium in Auckland New Zealand, Sarah will fight in a boxing fight instead. She will take on the returning Alrie Meleisea (4-0-0) in a rematch.

The two last fought in November 11th 2017 in an 8 round fight for the New Zealand (NZPBA version) Heavyweight title. The fight was a close contest but ended with Alrie winning by Unanimous Decision, which some people call it a controversial decision. With this win, Alrie Meleisea got ranked 4th on boxrec and 5 in the WBA. The two originally had a rematch booked for the title for June 2018, however, due to Alrie mother passing away, the fight was cancelled. Unfortunately, Alrie Meleisea has not fought since and had to vacate the New Zealand title.

Since the first fight between the two, Sarah has gone on to win the New Zealand title against a tough Ashley Campbell on October 2018. She peaked a Boxrec ranking of 6th before going down in rankings due to inactivity in boxing. Sarah, however, is regularly active in kickboxing, competing for multiple titles.

Alrie was scheduled to make her return in the ring back in June this year, however, nothing was confirmed due to the trainer wanting to give Alrie some extra time and preparation in the gym.

This rematch will not be a title fight as this fight is short notice. This will be a simple 4x3 min round fight. This fight opens up doors for both boxers as they both get back into boxing. A win for Sarah would lead to a possible rematch for a trilogy, however, a win for Alrie would lead to a possible World Title shot against Geovana Peres.

Sarah Long vs Alrie Meleisea II will happen on September 28th at ABA Stadium in Auckland New Zealand. The event dubbed Ultimate Rage 8 will have a mixture of Boxing and Kickboxing throughout the event. The card will feature two other professional boxing fights including the rematch between Jessie Nikora (2-4-0) and Skope Siaosi (2-1-0), and Mikarea Povey vs Terrence Montgomery. The rematch between Skope and Jessie was also announced late notice. Jessie came away with the win in the first fight by Split Decision. The decision itself was controversial as Jessie clear won the fight, which confused a lot of people why the decision ended in a split.

This is the first fight for Skope Siaosi since the fight between him and Jessie. Skope has had fights lined up throughout the year, however, he pulled out of them with different reasons. He did however had an exhibition bout back in July but he produced a poor performance on the night.
