Special Final Tribute:  Pro boxer Vicki Woods Passed Away
by Sue TL Fox
August 20, 2019

(AUG 20) Yesterday morning, WBAN received some very sad news about retired professional boxer, Vicki Woods.

Vicki Woods of Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA, was born on February 21, 1963.  She passed away earlier this week.  In her time of fighting as a professional boxer, she had 23 fights and she absolutely avoided no one in the ring---fighting many of the top female boxers from her career that spanned from 1997 - 2001 with a 9-11-3 (6KO) record.

Vicki was ranked as high as #5 in the world in the super lightweight division, by the WIBF in December of 2001.

WBAN covered her fights throughout the years.  What I truly remember about Vicki, she was "tough as Nails".

Retired world champion and 2019 IWBHF Inductee Lisa Holewyne wrote, "She [Vicki] was a huge part of my boxing and a friend. It’s hurts me. She is and will be a part of my induction speech. The world was a better place w Vicki in it and I am sad for myself and her two grown sons... and many friends that Vicki’s smile and infectious laughter will not be with us anymore. Heaven has one tough bitch and a hell of a woman among its ranks now! I love you girl."

Another dear friend wrote on Facebook, "No matter where the road takes you----you always remember those who touched, changed, and helped you to improve your life along the way. When I heard the news this morning,  that one of the greatest, toughest, sweetest fighters, and best sparring partner that I’ve ever had, passed (Ms. Vicki “Hurricane” Woods)....my heart sank. Gone way too soon, sis. Thanks for everything that you’ve taught me. I will continue to use the knowledge & skills as far as God will allow me to go with this dream."

WBAN would like to give our sincere condolences to friends and family of Vicki Woods.  May she rest in peace.
