(JUNE 25) On June 13, 2019,
Mericia Quinones, 27 years old passed away. WBAN would
like to give our condolences to family and friends of Mericia.
WBAN had a story written on
September 18, 2013, entitled, "
Through the Tragic Floods of Colorado Emerges a Triple Threat".
In that story in 2013, the
following was written: "Mericia Quinones, at age 20 loves
the sport of boxing and she feels that boxing builds mental,
physical and self-esteem within one’s and it is a very beautiful
sport! Mericia’s goals are to continue in college and get her
degree’s in political science and sociology for a double major
and one day become a law student to become an Immigration
Lawyer. She wants help all the minorities, especially the
children that have been impacted by all the Immigration laws. As
for boxing she would love to compete in the Olympics either
represent USA or Mexico due her families roots being from
Durango, Mexico, and maybe become a Pro one day.

WBAN received an open letter that
was written by Stephen Blea to the WBC President Mauricio &
Board: We received permission to publish the letter on
WBAN. He wrote the following:
We come before you all to say how Grateful we are to be a
part of this Awesome Familia!
We just recently buried Female Boxer Mericia Quinones age 27,
whom also recently was dealing with Mental Health Issues, sadly
she took her life.At the funeral service's it was brought that
she was in Therapy, and actively involved in the Church, and in
gym working out and she wrote in her journal the night before
even after going to the gym & church the night before she was
Praying for a miracle to help clear her mind in fighting those
demons, sadly the demons won. She took her life. Her Sister said
all this in church, Mental Health is No Joke.... God only knows
how much she was dealing with... R.I.P Champ
I was personally Blessed to
have worked with Mericia about six years ago as her first Boxing
Coach, I tried to maintain a good connection with her over the
years, even at one time gave her a Team USA Sweatshirt, Mericia
was thrilled and told me she was still working on becoming a US
Citizen. It still is really sad & shocking to hear of her
passing.
Raylene & I were both trying to think of something special
besides donating monies to the family.
We decided to also donate the WBC Award we received from the
WBC, at The WBC Women's first Boxing Convention. (Turned out to
Be an Awesome Blessing)
The family was so Touched by
this Beautiful Award, the thought that someone from the WBC
would care about their daughter that much to honor her with the
award was Very Touching. It was used at Viewing and Funeral
Services and taken by sister for their Mom.
It was very touching to see their tears and sadness for a brief
moment turn into smile of happiness.
Long story short Family sends Big Hugs and Thank-You's for
everyone at the WBC!
Raylene & I Thank You all as well, we may have done many WBC
Cares events in the past but this one sure was needed at this
time, we appreciate the opportunity that you have given us as
WBC Cares ambassadors, it is totally very humbling, rewarding,
at this times very crushing to the heart. It's still very hard
to Believe that this happened.
In Closing Thanks Again and May God Bless & Watch Over You All &
Much Love!
Respectfully,
Stephen & Raylene
