(DEC 19)  With a very heavy heart for a top female boxer, Maria Jesus Rosa, of Madrid, Spain, 44 years old, passed away yesterday after a short bout of Cancer.  According to news sources, she was just diagnosed with Cancer two months ago, and the disease unfortunately was very swift with Rosa.

Maria Jesus Rosa, began boxing professionally in 1999 to 2005.  She retired from boxing with a 19-1-0 (4KO), with her only loss against Regina Halmich, where she lost by a close ten-round split decision.

Maria made boxing history when she became Spain's first ever world champion in 2003.  She fought Terri Moss of the United States winning the bout by a ten-round unanimous decision, and winning the IBF light flyweight world title belt.

The Spanish Federation of Boxing said the following:  "We have just been told of the death of Maria Jesus Rosa, an illness that has led, in a short time, to the the sensational Madrid boxer, unjust, painful, cruel.  Maria Jesus Rosa will always be remembered for being the first champion of the Spanish professional boxing world."
