Maria Jesus Rosa Passes away at 44
years old after a Battle with Cancer

(DEC 19) With a very heavy
heart for a top female boxer, Maria Jesus Rosa, of Madrid,
Spain, 44 years old, passed away yesterday after a short bout of
Cancer. According to news sources, she was just diagnosed
with Cancer two months ago, and the disease unfortunately was
very swift with Rosa.
Maria Jesus Rosa, began boxing
professionally in 1999 to 2005. She retired from boxing
with a 19-1-0 (4KO), with her only loss against Regina Halmich,
where she lost by a close ten-round split decision.
Maria made boxing history when
she became Spain's first ever world champion in 2003. She
fought Terri Moss of the United States winning the bout by a
ten-round unanimous decision, and winning the IBF light
flyweight world title belt.
The Spanish Federation of Boxing said the following: "We have just been told of the death of Maria Jesus
Rosa, an illness that has led, in a short time, to the the
sensational Madrid boxer, unjust, painful, cruel. Maria Jesus Rosa will always be remembered for being the first
champion of the Spanish professional boxing world."
