AIBA Congress to vote on ratification of life ban for former AIBA President and former AIBA Executive Director

(OCT 2) The AIBA Executive Committee has yesterday decided to ban it’s former President Mr C.K. Wu as well as former Executive Director Mr. Ho Kim for life. The decision will be presented to the AIBA Congress in November this year for ratification and endorsement.

The decision by the AIBA Executive Committee was based on a comprehensive report produced by financial and forensic investigators K2 Intelligence. The report from K2 Intelligence documented gross negligence and financial mismanagement of AIBA affairs and finances by both Mr. CK Wu and Mr. Ho during their time as AIBA President and Executive Director respectively.

A summary of the report will be distributed to all AIBA National Federations eligible to attend the 2018 AIBA Congress in Moscow. The Congress will then be given the opportunity to vote on a possible ratification and endorsement of the decision by the AIBA Executive Committee.

In another vote yesterday, the AIBA Executive Committee decided to make a complain to the AIBA Disciplinary Commission regarding the offending conduct of AIBA Executive Committee member Mr. Franco Falcinelli. The AIBA Executive Committee also voted to suspend Mr. Falcinelli from his membership of the AIBA Executive Committee, the European Boxing Confederation and all other AIBA Boxing related activities.

AIBA Executive Director Mr. Tom Virgets said:

“The Executive Committee felt that there was a need to once and for all to draw a line in the sand and put the bad behaviour of the past behind us. AIBA and Olympic Boxing have over the past year been facing major challenges due the gross negligence and financial mismanagement of the previous leadership, and the evidence presented to the Executive Committee was overwhelming.”

“Now it is up to the National Federations to make the final decision, but the Executive Committee needed to act now, especially as this situation has threatened to influence the upcoming election for AIBA leadership positions. The Executive Committee simply felt that enough was enough in terms of misinformation and deceit in a time where everybody in AIBA should be working together for the best of Boxing.”
