Meleisea vs Long II postponed
by Benjamin Watt
June 20, 2018

(JUNE 20)   The second heavyweight bout between Alrie Meleisea vs Sarah Long for the New Zealand title has been postponed.

Alrie Meleisea was set to defend her NZPBA heavyweight title in a rematch against Sarah Long for this Saturdays event in Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand. However due to the death of her mother, Alrie Meleisea pulled out of the event. Terry Tuteru who was the promoter and the trainer/manager of Sarah Long tried to find a replacement fighter for Sarah for the interim NZPBA title, however due to late notice he was unable to find anyone.

The bout is postponed to a later date, hopefully this year. Terry Tuteru will be promoting another event in mid October, however this could conflict with the eight women heavyweight tournament thats happening at the beginning of October thats promoted by Craig Thomson. The tournament plays an important part in New Zealand Boxing and the winner is guaranteed a world title shot. Missing out on the tournament would be a missed opportunity for both boxers.

Terry Tuteru’s event this Saturday will still be going ahead with a full kickboxing card.
