Rematch:  Alrie Meleisea to Fight Sarah Long June 23rd in Auckland, New Zealand
by Benjamin Watts
June 7, 2018

(JUNE 7) The rematch between Alrie Meleisea and Sarah Long is set and ready to happen on June 23rd at Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand. Alrie Meleisea will be defending her NZPBA Heavyweight title against Sarah Long for the second time but this time the event will be held in South Auckland and promoted by Terry Tuteru.

WBA 9th ranked boxer Alrie Meleisea won the first bout between the two by an eight-round unanimous decision, however it was a very close bout, with the scorecards at 76-75 by two judges and 77-74 by another. Some people believe it was a controversial decision as they thought the knockdown in the second round was a trip and this bout either should have been a draw or a win to Sarah Long.

Even the commentators on Gladrap channel on youtube who recorded the show favoured Sarah long. This rematch will prove if the judges were wrong or if history will repeat itself.

Sarah Long weighed in at 78.4 kgs in the last bout, will be coming in a little bit heavier this time round to try match alrie weight of 90 kgs. Despite the loss, Sarah is confident that she can win against Alrie and take her place in the world rankings.

Alrie Meleisea has had a great camp as she been sparring and training with boxers like Robert Berridge, Kerry Davis, Gunnar Jackson and training hard on a daily basis. The current UBF Asia Pacific and NZPBA champ is looking for a win and get ready for a world title shot over next 24 months.
