On Saturday night at Miguel Hidalgo Gymnasium in Puebla,
Mexico, bantamweight Mariana Juarez, 117¾, of Mexico City,
Mexico, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Carolina Arias,
118, from Escazu, Costa Rica. The two were fighting for the WBC
Bantamweight title. Juarez retained her WBC world title belt for
the fourth time defending her title. The boxing event was
promoted by Promociones del Pueblo with the support of Cavall
Sport and Playboy México,
televised on Televisa Deportes.
Juarez won the WBC
Bantamweight world title belt on April 1, 2017, when she
defeated Catherine Phiri by a ten-round unanimous decision.
She then went on to defend her belt on July 8, 2017, against
Terumi Nuki, again winning by a unanimous decision.
Then on November 11,
2017, Juarez returned to the ring to fight and defend her WBC
title against Alesia Graf, making it a short night of that fight
when she won by a TKO over Graf.
In 2018, she fought Gabriela Bouvier on February 17, 2018, where
she won by a unanimous decision.
