(APR 30) This month, in what was
a tough test with one of her most challenging opponent, on April
21, Liverpool's 2012 Olympian Natasha Jonas, 129½, now
6-0-0 (5KO), won by a seventh round TKO [1:44], in her first
scheduled ten round bout over Taoussy L'Hadji, 128¼, now 5-7-1
(0KO), of Oise, France. The closely fought battle between these
two were very close on the scorecards, until Jonas stopped her
after she threw a barrage of combinations, which ultimately led
to the referee stopping the fight. Jonas collected her first
title when she won the vacant WBA International Super
Featherweight title.
Matt Horan of
Sky Sport wrote, " The 33-year-old was pushed all the way by
a defiant L'Hadji but she produced an explosive finish in the
seventh to become the first fighter to stop her French foe. Miss
GB', who notched up her
sixth win from as many fights, received a rapturous applause
as she made her way to the ring and Jonas got straight down to
action, forcing the fight with some swift and eye-catching
combinations. "
Another observer of the bout,
said on the
eyeonthering.com, "What a fight changer from Natasha-----
Jonas struggled, L'Hakji was awkward, in great shape, and there
to win, the fight was very close, but Jonas took risks when she
needed to kept her composure, used her defence, and found the
finish, great! The stoppage may have been premature, but she was
dazed, could have given her a chance, but you can't really
complain."
33-year old Jonas has come a long
way in the sport. She took up boxing in 2005, and had won five
ABA Championships in the 64 kg Division for the Liverpool club
Rotunda ABC. In 2009, she became the first female boxer to
compete for GB Boxing, and in the same year she won the gold in
the 64 kg division at the 2009 Women's European Union Amateur
Boxing Championships in Bulgaria. Jonas won another Gold medal
in the inaugural GB Amateur Boxing Championships in 2010.

In May of 2012, she made history
in China, when she reached the semi-finals of the 2012 AIBA
Women's World Boxing Championships to become the first-ever
female British boxer to qualify for the Olympic Games. In the
quarter-finals she fought Katie Taylor, losing to Taylor.
On June 23, 2017, at the Walker Activity Dome, in Newcastle,
Jonas made her pro debut, moving on from the amateurs. Jonas,
135, fought Monika Antonik, 136, stopping Antonik 1:32 seconds
of the first round, with the bout being scheduled for four
rounds.
Jonas then went on to fight
Bojana Libiszewska, at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, stopping
Libiszewska 1:17 in the fourth round.
Having two more fights in 2017, she defeated Marianna Gulyas by
TKO in the third round of a six-round bout; and Katarina
Vistica, where she stopped Vistica in the second round by TKO in
another six-round bout.
After the tough battle with
L'Hadji this month, there is talk about Jonas having a future
fight with Katie Taylor. According to news sources, Jonas wants
to win a world title at super featherweight first before taking
on Taylor.
