Arlie Masina wins second bout

(NOV 6)  Arlie Masina wins her second bout, just a week after debuting as a pro. Last week Masina took on New Zealand’s ranked number #1 boxers and top 10 heavyweight, Nailini Helu and this week New Zealand’s ranked number #3 boxer and top 15 heavyweight Kirsty Lupeamanu.

Last weekend Nailini Helu was scheduled to face Cheyenne Whaanga for the New Zealand National (NZPBA Version) Light Heavyweight title, however due to Whaanga being injured the title fight was called off and Masina was called in for a last minute replacement in a normal professional bout. The bout was on the Berridge vs Taihia undercard at ASB Stadium Auckland New Zealand. In a big shock, Masina won the bout by Split decision, a big upset for a debutant to win on 24 hours notice and with a chest infection.

Nailini Helu was the Mandatory challenger for the New Zealand National (NZPBA) Heavyweight title, and was due to fight the other mandatory challenger Ange Davis within the next 4 months. However with Helu’s defeat, it is most likely that Masina is made the new mandatory challenger.

This weekend Kirsty Lupeamanu took on Arlie Masina at the Cossie Club in Hamilton, New Zealand. Lupeamanu was already at a disadvantage as her mind was elsewhere with her young son was in hospital earlier in the week with a ruptured appendix. Masina won the bout against Lupeamanu by Unanimous decision.

In just a short week, Masina has raised to being number one in New Zealand and ranked in the top 10 in the world.

Lupeamanu released the following statement on facebook:

“Last night was definitely a night to remember… my fellow MTB crew fought as MTB do… With Mana and Pride. Every fighter come out and gave it their all and walked out humble. Unfortunately I didn't come out with the win but I came out with hunger to learn more… train harder… fight stronger and smarter.

I was absolutely overwhelmed with the support...when I walked out I literally was rocked by the roar...that crowd...far out. Thank you Dean..Tracey...Rangi...Winston...Dread.. Maria...Pera...The team that helped on Security...Tables and door.

Thank you and congratulations to my opponent Arlie...mean. Bossman...I want more. I have got more. I will give more. All my supporters...keep the faith...it's just the beginning of wonderful things! "
