Marston, Smith and Shaunagh Brown Strike a Blow for Equality on the 29th of August at York Hall
by Jon Collins
August 26,  2015

(AUG 26) The pioneering exploits of Cathy 'The Bitch' Brown and then Nicola Adams at London 2012 should have heralded a new dawn in UK female boxing. Not so.

Cathy Brown took up boxing at age 29 and went on to fight for genuine world and European titles. She gave the legendary German world champion Regina Halmich all the trouble in the world in 2003, knocking Halmich down in the 3rd only to lose a hotly contested points decision.

Brown went on to win the inaugural Board of Control English bantamweight title in 2005. She made the history books.

Since Brown retired, the Board of Control, with the brutality of a proscribed terrorist organisation, have blatantly crushed women's professional boxing in this country.

As we speak there is one active female Board licensed boxer in the rankings - Kelly Morgan of Swindon - who has only had one pro bout.

Licenses have been refused arbitrarily, all sorts of obstacles put in the way to deter all and any female boxers from becoming licensed.

It stinks to high heaven and is a Board legacy of the worst kind on British Boxing. The Board's overall problem is that they consider themselves the gatekeepers and custodians of British Boxing and no one elses view matters. In any another arena that's called tyranny.

MBC, a pro sanctioning organisation also facing unbridled oppression from the BBBofC, are making some sort of progress and whatever can be leveled against them, prejudice is not one of them.

On the 29th August 2015, MBC and Wiseguys Promotions make history by having three pro female fights on one card at pro boxing's Valhalla - York Hall.

The fighters in question are Marianne Marston, Sam Smith and Shaunagh Brown. All of them are tough, determined and highly capable. It's time for a dominant female boxer to emerge as Ronda Rousey has in MMA. One, two or all of these three could do it.

Never mind whatever titles are or are not on the line, if you got any love for boxing and want to strike a blow for equality and liberty then buy a ticket for York Hall on the 29th August.

There is no place for prejudice of any kind in the boxing ring.

The Mark Lyons and Billy James-Elliott Wise Guys promotions LORDS OF THE RING II event will take place at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 29th August 2015.
