(DEC 13) St. Petersburg,
Florida’s Noemi Bosques is set for her first taste of
Championship action, tonight when she challenges
Pueblo, Colorado’s Chantel Cordova for the vacant World Boxing
Union (WBU) Super Flyweight Championship, at the Florida State
Fairgrounds.
Bosques, whose record stands at
7-1-2 with two stoppage victories, including an excellent third
round TKO victory over Belgium’s Yolaine Lin De Lauf back in
August, will surely be facing the toughest challenge of her
career when she takes on twenty-fight veteran and current NABF
Super Flyweight Champion Cordova.
Earlier today World Boxing Union President, Don Lewis, spoke
briefly about the looming title clash.
“This could well be one of the best female title clashes of the
year, both Noemi and Chantel are talented, all action fighters.
On paper many will see Chantel as the odds on favorite, not only
has she fought twice as many times in her career as Noemi, but
she is also Championship experienced.
She beat the highly rated Patricia Alcivar to secure the NABF
title in July and then went on to retain her crown against
Gloria Salas in October.
In her career she has fought the likes of Hollie Dunaway, twice,
and World #2 Arely Mucino, so really is one seriously tough
cookie.
Whilst Noemi may be less experienced, she really made a
statement back in August, when she conclusively beat Belgium’s
highly rated Yolaine Lin De Lauf.
When I say conclusively I mean it, she had the Belgium girl on
the canvas twice before stopping her in the third round.
She then went on dominate and beat Ivana Coleman in a six
rounder in October, so she is more than ready for this fight.
Congratulations to Promoter Jerry Reyes, he has put together
some great fights to support the World Boxing Union Championship
main event, the likes of Charles Whittaker, Joseph Fernandez,
Jose Resendez, Ruben Azuma, Alex Roman, Moises Carrasquillo Jr.
and former amateur star Hector Luis Colon, who is set to make
his professional debut.
I wish all the fighters taking part in tomorrows show,
especially Noemi and Chantel, the best for tomorrow night.
Who do I think will win the WBU title fight? Well it’s a hard
one to call for sure, but I do know one thing, whoever emerges
victorious from this battle will definitely have earned their
victory laurels.”
