(OCT 31) Headlined by a
rubber match between former WBA super welterweight champion,
Layla "Amazing" McCarter and former World Champion Melissa "Huracan"
Hernandez, Platinum Entertainment in association with The
Orleans Hotel & Casino and Roy Jones Jr. Boxing, will bring back
live professional boxing to The Orleans Hotel and Casino a venue
that has one of the richest traditions of professional boxing in
Las Vegas. The event is schedule for Friday, November 21,
2014.
In addition to the boxing show,
the event will host and honor the 1984 US Olympic Boxing Team.
Organized by The Ring of Gold Committee, the team from the 1984
Los Angeles Olympic Games, is holding their 30 Year Anniversary
festivities in Las Vegas, including their appearance at this
venue.
The Mardi Gras Ballroom, with a seating capacity of 1,300 will
be used for the boxing event. Doors will open at 6:00 pm, with
the first bout scheduled for 7:00 pm.
Platinum Entertainment is headed by legendary trainer and
manager, Thell Torrence, who is bringing boxing back to The
Orleans, in what is planned to be the first of a boxing series
at this venue.
We have been working diligently to continue the tradition of
Friday-Night boxing in Las Vegas and fortunately we were able to
once again work with The Orleans Hotel and Casino, a place that
for many years has been the home of Las Vegas’ best local
boxing” said Torrence.
THE CARD
The card is called McCarter vs Hernandez III and it features the
third meeting of a “trilogy” between two of the best female
boxers in the sport, Layla "Amazing" McCarter and Melissa "Huracan"
Hernandez. This will be a non-title bout.
McCarter, (35-13-5, 8KOs), of Las Vegas, is a six-time world
champion, In her last outing, she TKO'd Noni Tenge, winning the
vacant WBA light middleweight title.
Hernandez (19-5-3 6KOs), of Puerto Rican descent and raised in
New York City and now residing in Miami Beach, Florida is also a
multi time world champion. In her last fight, she defeated
Nicole Woods by a eight-round majority decision.
McCarter won the first fight stopping Hernandez in the 8th of
schedule 12 round fight, for the GBU World lightweight title. In
the second bout, Hernandez won the bout by an eight round
majority decision for the same title. They are now 1-1 with the
tie breaker taking place on November 21.
Also, on the card are two undefeated fighters from the Roy Jones
Jr. Boxing Gym, Eric "BabyFace" Johnson & Montenegro’s Milorad "Micko"
Zizac whom will attempt to keep their undefeated record alive on
their journey to become World Champions.
Pending Nevada State Athletic Commission approval the complete
card will be announced soon.
