(JAN 17) On January 8th,
2014, WBAN published a story in regards to Mia St. John who had
announced in October of 1993 that she was "un-retiring".
Mia said the following:
"I have seen many challenges on the web made to me by
Victoria Cisneros. I realize that I am a target for
many female fighters, especially the younger ones. I guess
they feel like I am washed up and it's a good win for them on
paper. I have ignored these challenges and not because I am
afraid. I have pretty much fought everyone in boxing fearlessly,
but I have been trying to make the rubber match between Christy
and I. It's been difficult as Christy keeps retiring and
un-retiring, much like myself! So it remains unclear where she
stands now. I will say this, Victoria, I accept your challenge
if you can find a promoter to promote the fight with terms we
can both agree on. But be careful what you wish for! I have made a full recovery from my surgery and look forward to
retiring with your new WBC belt wrapped around my waist!"
WELL...TODAY WBAN has received a response from Cisneros
She stated the following:
Mia St John as you may know or may not----but I was suppose to
fight you about four years ago or so in Mexico, but couple
of weeks before the fight they told me they had someone else as
we know in boxing things change without our control.
So that left me with a hungry
spot in my heart as to fight the most popular female fighter in
the world---and that since that day as you know, I have
been trying like crazy along with my manager to find a big
promoter to do this fight, and as we all in female boxing
know big promoters have kicked us to the curb with many telling
me---we don't do female boxing, which in turn my manager
tells me they are stuck in the 50's.
Well Mia, I am not
challenging you because of a win or age but because I want to do
something for female boxing and have another portion of my
boxing history in my life fighting you and getting us promoted
by the Biggest Promoter in the World.
Who else in boxing can I
challenge that these promoters would even take months to decide
to promote female boxing on their cards but the Latina Queen of
boxing guess who?
Yes, you, I, am hoping to open up doors for
female fighters of the present and future and give us all
chances to be featured on these big shows and promotions.
I am not the only female fighter
that wants this but if I can contribute to our cause and open up
future doors for female boxing and bring these promoters and TV
executives out of the 50"s, I have nothing to lose but to
be part of female boxing History!
De parte de La Reyna De Guerra
Cisneros!
Also may I add being the female welterweight WBC Silver Champion
of the World, I would like to givei my condolences to the
Suliaman family on his recent passing.
Like I wrote in Spanish - I feel like I am one of the last if
not the last World Champion of the WBC while Sulaiman was alive
another part of my boxing history. Me siento como unas de las
ultimas 11-1-13 que recivio el cintiron de Jose Sulaiman en su
vida con muncho orgullo van a ser mi recuerdos de Senior
Suliaman!
