(JAN 8) WBAN has received news
that Alice [Smith] Yauger, 35, of Fort Worth, Texas, who
boxed from July 2000 to November 2001, has come back into the
sport, not only planning to box again but she made her pro debut
in MMA on November 23, 2013.
Yauger has an amateur boxing record 4-1,
and she fought in the first-ever All
Women's National Golden Gloves and featured in Sports Illustrated
for that event. Her pro boxing career is 2-3-0.
WBAN had the pleasure of seeing Yauger fight on ESPN2, when she
fought Linda Tenberg in an action-packed four round bout.
The fight was very close with one judge giving Yauger the thumbs
up for winning the bout. Tenberg ultimately won the bout
but only by a split decision.
At the end of 2001, Yauger left the sport due to being pregnant.
Currently, Yauger is looking to fight at 125-130 lbs who would have a similar
record of very few amateur fights and very few pro fights.
Team Yauger told WBAN, "we
are willing to travel if the promotion pays for two coaches and
herself as well as the licensing. Otherwise we are looking for
the North Texas area."
"She also has several MMA promoters looking to set up fights so
it just depends on who finds something first and if they are
close in date, then we would have to make a final decision based
on who, where and pay," added Team Yauger.
