(NOV 15) Tonight at the Five
Starr Banquet, in Queens, New York, the card was cancelled,
that would have featured Sonya Lamonakis vs. Gwendolyn
O'Neill. They were to fight for a title in an eight
rounder---but in a pre-fight medical examination
yesterday, O'Neill failed to pass.
In a news article posted on the Recorder today, they
reported that Lamonakis was
devastated by the news but that she was told she would get
another title fight against a different opponent mid- December.
With the cancellation, WBAN
has received an open challenge to Sonya Lamonakis from
heavyweight Martha Salazar, of California.
Team Salazar said the following:
Martha Salazar 12-4-0 wants to issue a challenge. Sonya said
after her last fight on an interview on Youtube that she wanted
to fight me again in her backyard. I want that shot. The
most legitimate title fight in our division is a rematch against
me. I will take that fight. I will fight her for a title. I will
fight her in her backyard.
Blanca Gutierrez, Salazar’s manager says, “Both of these ladies
have been training. They are both at the top of their game and
people want to see this rematch happen. This fight is the most
legitimate fight in the female heavyweight division hands down.”
