Inaugural Canadian Golden Gloves Championship A National Success

(JULY 26)  From July 17th - 20th, Boxing Canada held its inaugural Golden Gloves championship tournament at the NAV Centre in Cornwall, Ontario. This tournament featured some of the top amateur boxing talent from across the country and was a warm up for the Canadian National Amateur Championships which take place in mid October in Regina, Saskatchewan. In addition, the tournament got special recognition and shout outs from former Undisputed Heavyweight Champion Lennox Lewis and the new federal opposition leader of Canada Justin Trudeau.

Below is a list of the women who competed in the finals of the tournament and who won the gold medal.

Deyra Correa of Alberta won 3-0 against Surassa Picard of Quebec at 48kg Jr. CChelsea Charles of Ontario won 2-1 against Erica Ravelo of Saskatchewan at 50kg Jr. C

Scarlett Delgado of Ontario was the 57kg Youth Novice champion via Walkover

Alexandra Malizia of Quebec won 3-0 against Natasha Szlapetis of Ontario at 64kg Youth Novice

Taylor Ross of Nova Scotia was the 70kg Jr. C Novice champion via Walkover

Canadian National Champion Kim Klavel of Quebec won 3-0 against Kassandra O'Reilly of Ontario at 48kg Sr. Open

Canadian National Champion Mandy Bujold of Ontario won 3-0 against Amanda Galle of Ontario at 51kg Elite Open

Sara Haghighat-Joo of British Columbia won 2-1 against Sabrina Aubin of Quebec at 54kg Elite Open

Sabrina Aubin of Quebec won 2-1 against Caroline Veyre of Quebec at 57kg Elite Open

Odile Letellier of Quebec was the 60kg Elite Open champion via Walkover

Lita Mae Button of Ontario won 2-1 against Marie-Eve Decaire of Quebec at 64kg Elite Open

Kandi Wyatt of Alberta won 2-1 against Marie Eve Decaire of Quebec at 69kg Elite Open

Arianne Fortin of Quebec was the 75kg Elite Open champion via Walkover
