(JULY 12) ARGENTINA - On
Saturday, July 13, 2013, title fight for the interim
featherweight World Boxing Organization (WBO), between Miami
based boricua, six time world champion, fighting out of Angelo
Dundee's 5th Street Gym, Melissa "Hurcan" Hernández (18-4-3, 6)
and Marcela "La Tigresa" Acuna (38-6-1, 17) are scheduled to go
10 rounds. The winner of the fight will be the mandatory
challenger for Alejandra Oliveras.
"This audience will bear witness
to the rough battle of veteran champions". Says
Hernandez's trainer, Matt Baiamonte owner of Angelo Dundee's 5th
St. Gym. Hernandez, comes in to this bout on the back of a
controversial technical decision loss to Jelena Mrdjenovich back
in May in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
In her way, is the legendary
Acuna, a fighter who has faced a genuine who's who in the fight
game. In fact Acuna's first 2 bouts saw her facing a loss in
1997 against Christy Martin and again 1998 against Lucia Rijker,
where Rijker KO'd Acuna in the 5th round.
One of the great things about
these two women in particular is that they aren't afraid of
competition. Yes, they have faced the best of the best and
continue to rise to the top.
