(APR 9)  New Association Welcomes Male and Female Amateur Boxers - The US Intercollegiate Boxing Association (USIBA) will hold its first national championship tournament April 11 - 13 at the University of San Francisco.

The three-day event will feature more than 100 fighters from 25 universities across the country. Doors open at 5 p.m. at the Koret Health and Recreation Center on campus.

"We're proud to debut the USIBA at the University of San Francisco with amateur and open-division collegiate fighters from coast to coast," said Ramon Espada, Marketing Director, USIBA.

In another first, the collegiate tournament will make history as the first tournament to crown female champions.

"I am so happy that an organization is acknowledging women boxers on the same level as men. It is long overdue," said USIBA student representative Nargis Shaghasi, of the University of San Francisco.

The tournament will also feature an appearance by professional boxer Glenn Donaire the final night of the tournament on Saturday, April 13.
