The awful British Weather – cold with pouring rain, did not put off the loyal band of boxing fans at York Hall, Bethnall Green, London, England last Sunday afternoon, 23rd September 2012.

SUNDAY BEST ! was the event’s inspired title staged by The Queen of British Professional Boxing, Miranda Carter of LEFT JAB promotions. Ably supported by her family she put on another great value card.

The 9 bout tournament featured 8 men's and 1 women's fights.

ARETI MASTRODOUKA v GABRIELLA VICZE

This ladies Super Featherweight fight was the second bout.

On the 4th March this year, the woman’s fight between then new comer ARETI MASTRODOUKA and KRISTINE SHERGOLD was arguably the best fight of the day, but this time MASTRODOUKA making her third professional appearance so outclassed her opponent that this fight, scheduled for 6 x 2 minute rounds was terminated almost before it had started!

Manager Johnny Eames, Mastrodouka, Trainer Alec Wilkey

Born in Greece, her home is in Athens . However Areti (age 36) has been training since July 2011 under ALEX WILKEY in the TKO Gym, London England where she is managed by JOHNNY EAMES

Before this fight she had 2 professional wins,(both at York Hall, London) plus an impressive amateur boxing record of 28 wins, and 7 losses Twice winning a Silver Medal as Runner Up in the 60 Kilogram's class in the Women’s Amateur World Championships in 2002 and 2003

Her record as a Full Contact Kick Boxer was even better, winning the Women’s World Championship in the 60 Kilos weight class. Triumphant in 29 of her 30 fights.

Granted an annual license by the British Boxing Board of Control she is keen to become a Professional World Champion Boxer.

Her third professional opponent this time was GABRIELLA VICZE a cheerful 24 year old from Budapest, Hungary. VICZE has just finished 5 years at university with a Masters Degree and is now looking for a job. Unlike MASTRODOUKA she has had no amateur boxing experience before becoming a professional boxer in December 2009. Her record showed more courage than skill - losing 14 of her previous bouts, 5 by TKO's, and only winning 2

First Into the ring’s Red Corner, VICZE a slim 5 ft 4 inch woman with braided dark hair in a pink singlet and white satin shorts.

Then Into the ring’s Blue Corner, MASTRODOUKA a muscular 5 ft 7 inch woman with short black hair was clad in a black sports bra with long blue shorts with “The Master “ emblazoned across her waistband.

Mr. Flynn The Master of Ceremonies announced that the fight was over 6 x 2 minute rounds and that at the Weigh In MASTRODOUKA was 9 stone 4lbs 12 ozs and VICZE was 9 stone 6lbs .

Round 1

At the bell both women came quickly from their corners and VICZE immediately went on the attack from the centre of the ring, ducking down as she advanced towards her opponent throwing a number of straight left and straight right punches which either fell short or landed on MASTRODOUKA'S gloves. Her punches were ineffective. MASTRODOUKA sizing up her opponent, countered with a few, but effective counterpunches inside including a good left hook to the stomach. As they circled she let loose a devastating left hook again to the body which sent VICZE falling backwards onto the canvass near the Blue Corner. VICZE was up on her feet very quickly, holding her gloves up to show that she was ready to continue the fight, but Referee BOB WILLIAMS gave her a Standing 8 count and then sent her to her corner - ending the contest.

Speaking to your correspondent after the fight MASTRODOUKA seemed disappointed at the lack of opposition which had not tested her. She is anxious to win a World Title as quickly as possible as the present financial problems in Greece are a worry for her. VICZE who only speaks a little English was also disappointed that the Referee stopped the fight so quickly, as she was willing to continue. As the photographs confirm she was unmarked and unfazed by her knock down. Whilst the outcome could never be in doubt, it does appear that Referee BOB WILLIAMS may have been a little overprotective of VICZE and in so doing embarrassed her with her poor showing.
