(SEPT 7) Today at the Hard
Rock Casino and Hotel, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the weigh-in was
held for tomorrow night's boxing action. On the card will
feature one female bout, Melinda "La Maravilla" Cooper, 21-2-0
(11KO), 27, of Las Vegas, and her opponent 23-year old Celina
Salazar, 4-0-2 1KO) of Antonio, Texas.
Salazar was the amateur
Ringside 2006 Champ, Golden Glove 2006 Champ, California Bronze
medal 2007. She is also a USA Judge and referee, and is
currently a college student majoring in Criminal Justice.
She would like to be a Forensic specialist one day. She
works part time and trains with Arturo Ramos, at the Ramos
Boxing Team Gym in San Antonio. Cooper comes from a long
boxing career that has spanned from an extensive amateur
background to having over 20 fights as a pro. At the
scales, Cooper weighed 121, and Salazar, 121. A special
treat for Cooper and Salazar was seeing Christy Martin at the
weigh-in today.
