(MAY 11) It was in
1997, after doing extensive research for about a year on the
history of female boxing of any and all women who participated
in the sport, whether they had one fight or 20 plus fights.
I wanted to know about each and every one of them who played any
part in the history of the sport.
I did not have a clue how to make a website at the time, and my
earliest thoughts on making a website was to call website
businesses and asked what it would cost to get a website up on
the net.
I remember that after conferring with these companies, I knew
that if I was going be able to make this historical website in
what I was envisioning at the time, I would need to be able to
do it myself.
I knew in my heart that it would take massive amounts of
time----not only the continuing research of the sport, but just
learning how to get a website up on the net in the first place.
Something that sticks out in my mind, even as of today, who I
know said this to me, to help me, not to criticize...
"I don't want to hurt your
feelings...but NO ONE cares about the past fighters..."
I distinctly remember my response to that comment saying
almost in defiance....
"I don't care if only ONE
person visits the website....I want to give recognition to not
only the females I fought in the past, but to all women boxers
who had any participation in the sport."
So on May 19, 1998----- WBAN went live on the internet.
I say this with great happiness, that WBAN is now celebrating our 14th
year on the net.
I cannot say it has been an easy road to go with WBAN. I have
personally had some very high points throughout the
years-----but have also had many low points as well.
I do want to express my sincere appreciation to any and everyone
who has helped WBAN become "the monster" as I describe it as it
has become today.
Without the great writers and photographers,
and the boxing community throughout the world who has continued
to send in stories, links, information-----the site WOULD NOT be
what it is today on the net.
I have gained many close friends, worldwide, which is amazing to
me in itself.
I cannot trade or sell the experiences that I have
gotten from all of you, and there is no price tag that can
attach to what WBAN has become---and what it has done for me
personally.
